6U & 8U Mites
The 6U/8U Program is the next step after completion of Learn-to-Play sessions and discussion with your player's coach. A player needs to have their own equipment. It is targeted at further developing the skills of the beginner to the intermediate player to both enjoy the game and eventually progress to the more competitive levels. Practices consist of hockey drills interspersed with fun games utilizing the skills they are taught in accordance with the USA Hockey ADM (American Development Model). Some intrasquad games are organized by the coaching staff during the season to introduce players to the cross-ice play that is recommended for this age group.
The 8U Travel teams are designed for those players ready for the more competitive nature of playing games against other programs at both Iceland and their home rinks. Players compete in 1-day jamborees or weekend tournaments throughout the season. Depending on the number of players, there are three levels of competitiveness. Red, White, and Blue.
Ages
The 6U level is for birth years 2020, 2021, and 2022 (2026-2027 season)
The 8U level is for birth years 2018 & 2019 (2026-2027 season) after the player has learned basic skating and stick skills and has completed one of the following prerequisites:
1) Learn To Play
2) Learn To Skate
3) Little Ice Cards
When
Registration Skates:
- August 11: 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
- August 13: 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
Players are encouraged, but not required, to attend registration skates.
This program will be offered in 2 sessions:
Session 1: September 8 - November 29
Session 2: December 1 - March 14
Where
Practices & games are held at Iceland Sports Complex. Players participating in the travel teams will play games and tournaments in various locations

- Tuesday 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
- Sunday: 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm
Please note that there will be some Sundays throughout the session that are not available due to tournaments being held at the rink. Dates will be communicated to participants.
8U: First practice September 8
- Tuesday: 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
- Thursday: 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm
Games
The 6U Mini-Mites and 8U Mites will play in-house games on select practice days throughout the season. Those dates will be communicated to both groups by the coaches as they become scheduled. There is a target of 10 - 12 games throughout the season.
Jerseys
Mites jerseys are loaned and must be returned at the end of the season. No socks are provided.
Program Cost
All programs require registration with USA Hockey and KAIHA. Those costs will be detailed on the registration link.
The 2026 - 2027 full program cost is $730 and includes a minimum of 40 practices for the season. There is an option to pay for each session separately ($365) as some players may join later in the year due to other conflicts.
Mites Select: 8U players will have the opportunity to play additional games, jamborees, or tournaments throughout the season and will have additional costs to participate. Those opportunities can be discussed at the registration skates if interested and as the season begins.
